Elmira Jackals News Release
The Elmira Jackals exploded for six goals Thursday night against the Adirondack IceHawks, with three of those markers coming on the power play in a 6-2 win.
The Jackals pumped home four goals in a first period flurry that spanned 7:13 of the first period. Mike Thompson kicked things off at the 12:34 mark with help from Adam Borzecki and Corey Neilson, then Aaron Phillips made it 2-0, with assists going to Mike Hofstrand and Tom Clayton. The outburst continued at 15:46 as the Jackals got a goal from Brad Wingfield, with Randy Murphy and Jody Robinson assisting on the goal. The flurry ended with a power play marker as Eddy Lowe scored at 19:47 of the period to send the Jackals off the ice with a 4-0 lead. Elmira out shot the IceHawks 16-6 in the first period.
In the second, Adirondack would pull within 4-1 but Elmira went ahead by four once more, as Randy Murphy scored on the power play, with Adam Borzecki and Corey Neilson throwing the helpers. In the third period, the IceHawks struck quickly as Trevor Senn scored :13 into the period, but Randy Murphy notched his second power play goal of the game, with Wingfield and Rob Guinn chipping in.
Marco Emond stopped 24 of 26 shots, including stoning Frank Littlejohn from point blank range just under four minutes into the game, keeping a scoreless tie intact, and allowing the Jackals to score first and take charge from there. It was Emond's first start in a Jackal uniform, and he picked up the win to go 1-0 on the year.
Randy Murphy's two goals and an assist lead the team, while Mike Thompson (1-1), Adam Borzecki (0-2), Brad Wingfield (1-1), and Corey Neilson (0-2) all recorded two point nights. Jody Robinson, Mike Hofstrand, Tom Clayton, Kevin Kerr and Rob Guinn all chipped in with an assist, while Eddy Lowe and Aaron Phillips each scored single goals.
The Jackals will get back at it with the IceHawks Friday night in Glens Falls as the second half of the home and home gets under way at 7:30 pm. Full coverage starts on WiNGZ 104.9 at 7:05 pm with the pre-game show. If you can't make it to the game, tune it in on your Home for Jackals Hockey, WiNGZ 104.9!
