Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. -- The Bakersfield Condors of the West Coast Hockey League have announced roster changes today, with the signing of defenseman Jimmy Drolet, who will join the team this weekend for their match against the San Diego Gulls. In addition defenseman Christoffer Norgren has been placed on Injured Reserve.
Drolet, 26, is a former 5th round selection of the Montreal Canadiens in 1994. He spent the last two seasons playing in the British Superleague. He spent nearly three full seasons in the American Hockey League prior to jumping to Europe, where he played in Britain and Switzerland. The Vanier, Quebec native measures 6'1", 200-lbs. During his professional career, Drolet has recorded 18 points in 23 playoff games.
"Jimmy is a quality defenseman who is going to come in and help us out," said Head Coach Paul Kelly. "It may be short term or it may be long term, but we want him to come in and see what happens. He may have some other options opening up down the road, but we hope he's here for a while. He'll help us offensively and on the power play and he's good in both ends of the ice.
The signing of Drolet comes off the heels of an injury Norgren sustained against the Gulls in a 4-1 loss on Sunday. He will undergo surgery to have a plate inserted in his mouth to repair damage incurred during a collision with Gulls winger Dennis Purdie, whose stick struck Norgren in the mouth. He was placed on IR today, while rookie winger Denis Ladouceur was taken off the injured list. A graduate of Cornell University, the rookie has not played since the preseason game against Fresno. Norgren's return date is unknown.
The Condors play in San Diego on Sunday, in a 5:00pm match at the San Diego Sports Arena. All games, home and away, can be heard on KGEO AM 1230, with "Condors Countdown" starting 15 prior to game time. The next home game is on Saturday, November 2nd at 7:00pm when they host the Gulls. Everyone in attendance will receive a free "Bakersfield's Best" poster, featuring the top players in franchise history, including Jamie Cooke, Steve Dowhy, Glen Mears, Paul Willett and more. KERN 1410 and Rio Bravo Country Club sponsor the posters.
