Storm Stays on Streak

October 25, 2002 - ECHL (ECHL)
Toledo Walleye News Release

(Toledo, Ohio) The Toledo Storm won the team's fourth game in a row and maintained a perfect 4-0-0 record at the Toledo Sports Arena with a 4-3 win over the Wheeling Nailers tonight. Toledo's record is now 5-0-1=11, and the Storm remain in first place in the Northwest Division.

The Storm also maintained the team's perfect record when scoring first (5-0-0), as Toledo's Erik Anderson extended his six game point streak with the game's first goal at 2:11 of the first period, when he redirected a Nathan Lutz shot from the point, beating Nailer goaltender, Mike Valley.

Toledo took a 2-0 lead when Nick Parillo redirected an Alexandre Jacques saucer off the right wing half-wall that slipped between Valley's legs at 7:59 of the first. Mike Bayrack built the Storm lead to three when he battled off the forecheck, took control of a loose puck low in the right circle and ripped a snap shot past Valley at 14:17 of the first. The Storm closed out the period with a power play goal when Grady Moore blasted one past everybody from the left point with just five seconds remaining to send the Storm to the locker room leading by four. There was no scoring in the second, but the Storm had to pull goaltender, Brian Finley, for the second consecutive time when he appeared to aggravate a groin that continues to bother him. As he did last Saturday night, Storm goaltender, Doug Teskey, came on in relief at 8:11 of the second. In the third, Wheeling mounted a formidable comeback with three goals, two by Tim Preston (at 6:18 and 16:26 of the third) and the third by Mike Nelson (at 17:48). But the Nailers were unable to complete the comeback attempt, as the Storm preserved the team's fifth victory of the season.
