Grrrowl Explode for Seven Goals in 7-4 Win over Columbus

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The Greenville Grrrowl exploded for three second period goals in the short span of 4:43, and beat the Southeast Division rival Columbus Cottonmouths 7-4 at the BI-LO Center Saturday night. Overall, the defending Kelly Cup Champions received seven goals from seven different goal scorers on the way to their second win of the season.

MIKE HURLEY opened the scoring with his fourth of the season at 7:35 of the first period. The Grrrowl brought a 1-0 lead into the second period, when the flood gates opened. MARK GOUETT, ALEXANDRE BURROWS and MATT DEMARSKI scored three quick goals and the Grrrowl enjoyed their first four goal lead of the season.

Jerome Bechard scored a shorthanded goal before the end of period two, and John Morlang pulled Columbus within two at 10:07 of the third period. But Greenville's MIKKO SIVONEN answered that goal with his second goal of the season :29 seconds after Columbus made it 4-2. Sivonen, JUDD MEDAK and TYLER DEIS scored goals 1:54 apart in the third period to open a 5-goal lead. Deis (1-2-3 PTS.), Burrows (1-2-3 PTS.) and ERIC LIND (0-3-3 PTS.) all chipped in 3 points apiece for the winners. JONANTHAN ROY also added an assist, and now has points in all 6 Grrrowl games this season. (3-6-9 PTS.)

The Grrrowl and Cottonmouths square off in the re-match tomorrow night (Saturday) in Columbus, Georgia at 7:05 PM (Newsradio 133 & 950, WORD).
