
Reign claims 2-1 shootout win against Condors

ONTARIO, Calif. - G Ryan Nie stopped 39 of 40 shots, but the Ontario Reign claimed a 2-1 shootout victory against the Bakersfield Condors before 4,792 fans at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario Friday night.
The Condors (6-8-3, 15pts) opened the scoring in the first period when F Matt Pope netted the rebound from a F Dale Reinhardt wrist shot for his team-leading 11th goal of the season at 7:15. Nie stopped all 15 Ontario shots in the period to keep Bakersfield ahead, 1-0, despite the Reign doubling the Condors in shots on goal through one.
Ontario (9-6-2, 20pts) out-shot the Condors in the scoreless second period as well, 14-9. However, Nie again blanked the Reign in the frame, keeping Bakersfield in the 1-0 lead, while racking up 29 saves through the first two stanzas.
The Reign finally found a way to beat Nie, as they tied the game on a D David Walker one-timer from the slot at 14:42 in the third period. By the end of regulation, Ontario led in shots, 37-21, but the score was even at 1-1, setting the stage for overtime.
Neither team lit the lamp in the extra session, and Ontario prevailed in the shootout, 2-0, to take the 2-1 win.
