Cincinnati Cyclones News Release
ELMIRA, New York- Cincinnati Cyclones forward Ben McLeod scored a pair of goals and Martin Houle re-directed 24 shots in regulation time and all five he faced in the shootout to preserve a 4-3 shootout win over Elmira Friday night. The win moves the Cyclones back to .500 at 7-7-3.
The Cyclones opened the scoring 4:43 into the first period when Barret Ehgoetz collected his fourth goal of the season on the power play from Thomas Beauregard and Olivier Latendresse. Elmira got a pair of power play goals from Kaleb Betts, his fifth and sixth of the season at 9:40 and 11:11-to give the Jackals a brief 2-1 lead. Cincinnati leveled the scores at 13:32 when Ben McLeod's first ECHL goal tied the game at two all. Conrad Martin and Michael Cohen handed out the helpers. Cincinnati led the shots on goal in the first period, 13-11.
Elmira grabbed the lead at 3-2, at 10:32 of the second period-as Chris Korchinski netted his third goal of the campaign. The Cyclones would answer at 15:23, as McLeod tallied his second of the night and second of the year. The play was created when McLeod and Paul Lynch worked a two-on-one in on netminder Michael Teslak.
Following a scoreless third period and a scoreless overtime, the game moved to a shootout. The lone goal of the bonus frame came on a backhanded goal from Mark Van Guilder-a backhanded effort that eluded Michael Teslak.
Martin Houle stopped 24 shots in picking up his fourth win of the season. Teslak turned aside 34 shots, but absorbed the shootout loss.
Cincinnati outshot Elmira, 12-3, during the third period and overtime. For the game, the Cyclones won the shot battle, 38-27.
