Reichenbach's 45 Saves Propels Norfolk Past Reading 5-2

NORFOLK, VA -- Ty Reichenbach made 45 saves, while Eric Roy added two assists as the Norfolk Admirals topped the Reading Royals 5-2 Friday Night at Scope Arena. With the win, Norfolk improves to (19-23-3-3 44 Points) and sit seven points back of Orlando for the fourth and final playoff spot in the South Division.

After a scoreless first, Norfolk jumped out in front 3:31 into the second period with a goal from Darik Angeli. Angeli picked off a pass at his own blue line intended to be dumped into the Norfolk zone. Angeli skated from his own blue line into the Reading zone and made a move around a defender to give him a breakaway. Angeli fired a shot that went over the glove of Andrew D'Agostini to give Norfolk a 1-0 lead.

The Admirals extended itheir lead to 2-0 with a goal from Brant Sherwood (pictured above). Luke Nogard played the puck from his own zone into the neutral zone for Eric Roy. Roy dove and played the puck onto the stick of Sherwood skating into the Reading zone on the left side. Sherwood made a move to the inside of his defender and backhanded a shot from the slot that beat D'Agostini on the glove side to give Norfolk a 2-goal lead. Sherwood's goal was his first ECHL point and goal.

Norfolk added another goal to its lead, this time a short-handed tally from Kelly Klima. Eric Roy played the puck along the far wall in his own zone and fed the puck ahead on the right side for Ben Duffy. Duffy fed a saucer pass across the ice to Klima in the right-circle who fired a shot short side beating D'Agostini to give Norfolk a 3-0 lead at 14:05 of the second period.

Reading cut into the Norfolk lead with a power-play goal from Nick Luuko. Zach Todd played the puck into the right circle for Alex Roos. Roos fed a pass to Lukko outside the right circle who skated in on Reichenbach and fired a backhander over his left shoulder to cut the Norfolk lead to 3-1 at 15:48 of the second period.

Reading added another goal with their goalie pulled. Chris McCarthy played the puck at the center point. McCarthy played the puck into the left circle for Roos. Roos shot the puck which was tipped on the way by Luuko past Reichenbach to cut the Norfolk lead to 3-2.

Norfolk would add empty net goals from Romain Chuard and Jake Wood and win by a 5-2 final score.

Ty Reichenbach was tremendous as he made 45 saves on 47 shots and gets his 14th win of the year for Norfolk. Andrew D'Agostini made 21 saves on 23 shots and takes the loss for Norfolk.

The Admirals will remain at home at Saturday when they play host to the Atlanta Gladiators at 7:00 p.m. Fans can catch the game broadcast on Mixlr or on ECHL.TV
