Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Today's Game: After having their 12-game winning streak snapped last night, the RedHawks look to begin a new one when they continue their series in Las Vegas and face the 51s at 9:05 p.m. central time.

Last Game: The RedHawks' 12-game winning streak came to an end Thursday in a 12-3 loss in Las Vegas. Already leading 2-0 in the fifth inning, the 51s scored four times after having none on and two out. A three-run homer by Oklahoma City's Brandon Laird cut the 51s' lead in half in the sixth inning. The RedHawks had an opportunity to get closer with the bases loaded and one out in the seventh, but could not score. Brandon Hicks homered to lead off the bottom of the seventh and Las Vegas added five more runs in the eighth inning, including a two-run shot by Hicks. RedHawks pitcher Asher Wojciechowski had a rare off night and only could get through 4.2 innings. Wojciechowski (7-5) was charged with six runs and seven hits. After allowing no walks in his previous two starts, Wojciechowski walked five and struck out six. The RedHawks pitching staff tied a season high with 11 walks.

Today's Probable Pitcher: Bobby Doran makes his fourth start with the RedHawks...His most recent outing came in the RedHawks' 24-5 rout last Saturday over Colordao Springs. He allowed four runs and eight hits over 4.2 innings, walked two and struck out three in a no decision. It was just the third time this season he's given up more than three runs in a game (26 G/16 GS)...In his first two starts with the RedHawks combined, Doran allowed four runs and 11 hits over 10 innings in a pair of spot starts...He's done well in pressure situations during his time in the PCL, holding opponents to a 4-for-21 mark with runners in scoring position...Doran spent most of this season with Double-A Corpus Christi, pitching in 23 games and starting 13. With the Hooks he had a 3.26 ERA and 69 strikeouts in 94.0 IP. At the time of his promotion, his ERA and 1.17 WHIP each ranked sixth in the Texas League...Doran was selected by Houston in the fourth round of the 2010 draft from Texas Tech University.

The RedHawks were limited to one run in each game and batted .143 for the series...Things were a bit different during OKC's last trip to Las Vegas, Aug. 3-6, 2011. The teams combined for 62 runs over four games, and the RedHawks hit .314 over the four-game series split...Five of the last eight meetings have been decided by one run.

It Was a Good Run: Thursday's loss halted the RedHawks' club record winning streak at 12 games. The winning streak was the longest in the Pacific Coast League since a 13-game win streak by Salt Lake in April 2008. Thursday's loss was the first for Oklahoma City in exactly two weeks since they fell 2-1 in 12 innings July 25 at Omaha.

The Laird Up There: Brandon Laird stayed hot, going 3-for-4 with a three-run homer last night. He is batting .522 (12x23) during his current six-game hit streak with six extra-base hits and 15 RBI. For the season he is third in the PCL with 31 doubles and tied for fifth with 70 RBI. In August he is pacing the PCL with 15 RBI and his 12 hits are tied for most in the league as well. He also leads the team with 109 hits, 14 home runs, and 59 runs scored.

As the Crowe Flies: Trevor Crowe is 15-for-30 (.500) with three RBI during an eight-game hitting streak and now is 16-for-40 (.400) over the first 11 games of his rehab assignment. Crowe has been sidelined since spraining the AC joint in his right shoulder on June 20. Including when he was with the RedHawks full-time earlier this season, the team is 18-3 when Crowe leads off this season. Last night was his first multi-strikeout game since May 26 against Oakland and his first with OKC since April 22 in Albuquerque.

Multi-Hit Martinez: Jose Martinez recorded his third straight multi-hit game last night. During this stretch he is 7-for-11 with six RBI.

Walking Tall: Last night was the third time season the RedHawks allowed 11 walks in a game. Prior to June 3, the RedHawks had not walked 11 batters in a game since April 28, 2000 in Nashvile. Their 454 walks this season are third-most in the PCL, and last night Lucas Duda became the second opponent to draw four walks in a game, joining Memphis' Chad Huffman (July 20).

A Bump on the Bump: Yesterday was the first time the RedHawks allowed more than six runs in a game since the All-Star Break. The pitching staff tied season highs by allowing 12 runs, eight extra-base hits, and 11 walks. Despite the hiccup, the RedHawks still have a 3.07 ERA (66 ER/193.1 IP) since the break. The starters have combined for a 2.64 ERA (38 ER/129.1 IP) and allowed more than two earned runs in a game just four times. The RedHawks have held opponents to three runs or less in 15 of their 22 games since the All-Star Break as well (17-5).

RISPy Business: Over the first 11 games of their winning streak, the RedHawks batted .349 (38x109) with runners in scoring position. Over the past two nights they have combined to go just 3-for-24, including 1-for-11 last night.

Dinger Details: Including Brandon Larid's three-run shot last night, each of the last four home runs by the RedHawks have come with at least two men on base. The team did not hit a three-run homer or grand slam between July 11 and August 2...Last night was the first time the RedHawks allowed more than one homer in a game since July 24 in Omaha and for just the second time since July 13. Jason Stoffel allowed his first homer in a RedHawks uniform, snapping a streak of 34 homer-less appearances (49.0 IP).
