Round Rock Express News Release
ROUND ROCK, Texas - An early lead dissipated quickly as the Round Rock Express (62-58) fell for the second straight night to the Salt Lake Bees (69-51) 5-1 in Matt Harrison's first rehab start with the E-Train.
The Express struck in the bottom of the first, wasting little time in taking an early lead. A pair of singles off the bats of center fielder Jim Adduci and catcher Robinson Chirinos sparked the E-Train offense before shortstop Yangervis Solarte plated the game's first run on a sacrifice fly to left, giving Round Rock a one-run advantage.
Salt Lake fought back in the top of the second, taking advantage of Express miscues to rally. After center fielder Scott Cousins reached on a fielding error to start the frame, a single by the next batter put the pressure on Harrison. Catcher John Hester made the Express pay for the early mistake, blasting a three-run shot to put the Bees in front 3-1.
Harrison set down Salt Lake in order in the third, but was lifted just three pitches into the fourth with numbness in his hand. His early exited was ruled a precaution by the training staff as right-hander Carlos Pimentel entered in relief. Pimentel struggled to find the strike zone after being forced into action, walking the first two batters he faced. Two outs later, Pimentel walked the bases loaded and then proceeded to issue a free pass to shortstop Andrew Romine that forced in the fourth Bees run.
Salt Lake tacked on an unearned run in the eighth off right-hander Wilmer Font, leaving the Express trailing 5-1 with just six outs of offense remaining.
Round Rock never found its bats after the first, registering just three hits over the final 8.0 innings as the Bees took a 2-0 lead in the series and handed the Express its 10th consecutive loss, setting a new Triple-A franchise record.
Harrison (0-1) took the loss, while Salt Lake starter Matt Shoemaker (9-13) picked up the win after holding Round Rock to one run over 7.0 innings of work.
The Express continues a four-game series with the Salt Lake Bees Saturday at 6:05 p.m. Right-hander Scott Richmond (4-5, 5.32 ERA) will take the mound for Round Rock, while Salt Lake sends Jarrett Grube (5-5, 4.48 ERA) to the hill. Saturday's game will be followed by the final St. David's Summer Concert Series performance as the Spazmatics take the stage in center field following the final out. It will also be 80's Night at Dell Diamond as fans are encourage to wear their 80's attire for the chance to participate in a costume contest for a prize pack that includes an autographed Ron Washington baseball.
