Memphis Redbirds News Release

RENO, Nev. - A five-run rally and eight strong innings from Charles Brewer propelled the Reno Aces to a 5-2 win over the Memphis Redbirds in a rain-suspended contest on Friday at Aces Ballpark. The two teams will play another seven-inning contest beginning at approximately 8:40 pm CT on Friday night due to last night's suspension.

Brewer's (5-9) eight frames matched a season-high for the third time this season. He allowed two runs on six hits and struck out one.

Travis Tartamella went 2-for-3 to extend his hitting streak to a season-high eight games. Outfielder Chad Huffman tripled and scored while second baseman Kolten Wong hit his ninth home run.

Matt Davison doubled and scored Reno's first run on an Ed Easley two-out RBI single in the bottom of the second inning.

The Aces batted around and extended their lead with a four-run third inning against Scott McGregor, which matched the highest scoring output against the Redbirds in the third all season. After McGregor retired the leadoff hitter, he allowed four consecutive hits and an intentional walk.

Tony Campana singled and scored on a Chris Owings triple. Mike Jacobs followed with an RBI single. Josh Wilson then hammered an RBI single off the outfield wall before Easley concluded Reno's rally with a sacrifice fly.

Memphis scored both of its runs in the final two innings. Huffman led off the eighth with a triple over the center fielder's head and scored on a Justin Christian infield groundout. Wong belted a solo home run in the ninth inning to conclude the club's scoring.

Both starting pitchers from the night before took no-decisions before the game was sent into a rain delay with one in the bottom of the first inning. Boone Whiting recorded one out while Diamondbacks top prospect Tyler Skaggs walked one over a scoreless frame.

Scott McGregor (4-8) allowed five runs on seven hits with a pair of strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings of relief for the loss. Victor Marte worked around a hit and a walk for two scoreless innings.
