RedHawks Split Doubleheader

Colorado Springs, Col. - The Oklahoma City RedHawks and Colorado Springs Sky Sox split a doubleheader Thursday night at Security Service Field, as the RedHawks won the first game 7-4 and the Sky Sox earned the split with a 9-2 win in the nightcap.

In Game 1, each team scored once in the first inning, and the RedHawks took the lead for in the second. With two outs, Sky Sox third baseman Brendan Harris committed a throwing error, allowing the inning to continue. Two batters later, Justin Ruggiano hit a three-run homer to put the RedHawks up 4-1.

An RBI single by Angel Sanchez and a sac fly by J.B. Shuck in the third extended the lead to 6-1.

Andrew Brown hit a two-run home in the fourth to pull the Sky Sox within 6-3. A wild pitch in the next inning brought home another run for the RedHawks as they went ahead 7-3.

Harris notched a two-out RBI single in the sixth. Two batters later, Chad Tracy came up to the plate representing the tying run, but David Carpenter got him to fly out to deep left-center field to end the inning.

Carpenter retired the side in order in the ninth to wrap up the victory and earn his first save.

Aneury Rodriguez (2-3) claimed his first win since April 6, allowing three runs and five hits with two strikeouts over 3.2 innings. He came on in relief of Jordan Lyles who allowed one run over the first two innings in his first action since being optioned back to the RedHawks.

Drew Pomeranz (2-1) took the loss for Colorado Springs. The lefty allowed six runs-two earned-and seven hits in three innings. He struck out four and walked one. Since being acquired in a trade with Cleveland last season, Pomeranz had not allowed a run in 25.2 innings in any Rockies minor league game.

In Game 2, Colorado Springs was nearly unstoppable with two outs, scoring eight runs and collecting 10 hits with two down in a 9-2 win.

Tied 1-1 in the third, the Sky Sox registered five consecutive hits with two outs to plate three runs and take a 4-1 lead. Brown drove in a pair with a double, and Harris followed with an RBI single.

Colorado Springs scored four more times in the fourth, three of which scored with two down. Brown delivered another RBI double and eventually scored on a passed ball to make it 8-1. The Sky Sox scored their ninth and final run in the fifth appropriately on a two-out RBI single by Field.

Brad Snyder hit a home run in the seventh to finish the scoring for his sixth home run of the season.

Dallas Keuchel (4-4) struggled for a second straight start, allowing eight runs and 11 hits over a season-low 3.2 innings.

Guillermo Moscoso (3-3) earned the victory limiting the RedHawks to just one run and six hits over six innings. He struck out three and walked one.

Despite dropping the last game, the RedHawks still had a successful trip to Colorado Springs, winning three of four. They'll head to Albuquerque to begin a pivotal four-game set Friday night at 8:05 p.m. central time.
