
Redbirds Blow out Sounds to Clinch Series Victory

NASHVILLE, TN - The Memphis Redbirds clinched a series victory over the Nashville Sounds on Saturday night at First Horizon Park by a final score of 10-0.
The Redbirds jumped all over Sounds pitching on the night, scoring 10 runs on 18 hits just two nights after scoring 19 runs on 23 hits. Shortstop Paul DeJong led the way with a 4-for-5 night at the plate and tallied five RBIs on the night.
Second baseman Evan Mendoza also had a tremendous night, going 4-for-5 with two doubles and scored three runs. Three other Redbirds tallied multi-hit efforts, including center fielder Ben DeLuzio (3-for-5, 3 Rs), left fielder Alec Burleson (2-for-5) and third baseman Cory Spangenberg (2-for-5, double, triple, RBI and two runs scored).
On the mound, starter Aaron Brooks was tremendous. The right-handed pitcher tossed a Redbirds season-high 7.2 innings of shutout baseball and struck out six batters while he allowed six hits to earn his fifth win of the season. Brooks has not allowed a run since July 4th, three starts ago.
The Memphis Redbirds (50-39) will face the Nashville Sounds (53-35) on Sunday night for the finale of the six-game series. LHP Matthew Liberatore is set to start for Memphis opposite RHP Caleb Boushley for Nashville. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05pm CDT, with pregame 10 minutes prior on memphisredbirds.com and the First Pitch App.
