July 16, 2022 - International League (IL)
Rochester Red Wings News Release
Omaha Storm Chasers (43-44) vs. Rochester Red Wings (47-41)
Saturday - 6:05 p.m. ET - Frontier Field - Rochester, NY
Radio: Fox Sports 1280/iHeartRadio | TV: MiLB.tv
TBA vs. RHP Logan Verrett (4-6, 4.58)
THOU SHALL NOT SCORE: The Rochester Red Wings recorded their ninth shutout win of the season last night, besting Omaha 3-0...RHP Franklyn Kilome tossed 5.2 innings, allowing eight hits while striking out two Storm Chasers...LHP Francisco Perez, RHP Curtis Taylor, and RHP Patrick Murphy each contributed out of the Red Wings bullpen, holding Omaha to just one hit while punching out six, earning Murphy his second consecutive save...3B Jake Alu picked up the only Wings XBH of the contest with a two-run blast, logging a multi-RBI night...SS Ildemaro Vargas and LF Josh Palacios picked up a knock with 2B Jake Noll logging the only multi-hit performance of the night...RHP Logan Verrett will get the nod today as Rochester looks to extend their win streak to three games, something they haven't been able to accomplish since the beginning of June (3 wins, 6/2-6/4-G1).
PITCH PERFECT: Following yesterday's shutout win, Rochester pitchers have not allowed a run in 12.1 consecutive innings and have only allowed one home run in their last 11 games...the Wings have logged 50 strikeouts across their last 46 innings pitched, good for a K/9 of 9.8...Rochester currently holds the crown in the International League-East for most shutouts (9) while allowing the second-least amount of long balls at 71...the Nationals' top affiliate is also tied-sixth in the IL for most punchouts with 806 this season.
The Wings haven't surrendered a home run since Lehigh Valley's walk-off homer on July 8, making it 6-straight games without a long ball being surrendered, the longest streak since 2017 when that pitching staff did not allow a long ball for 10-straight.
SIGHTS SET ON VEGAS: With last night's win, the Hot Wings are currently in a four-way tie for first place in the International League-East, marking the first time since June 17 that the Wings have held at least a share of the top spot...for 31 days straight (5/10-6/14), the Wings held sole ownership of first place and haven't been in first place or held a share of the lead in the IL since 6/17.
RAKE AND JOSH: LF Josh Palacios extended his on-base streak to 22 games with his RBI-single in last night's contest against Omaha...the lefty has the longest on-base streak on the Red Wings squad this season and currently holds the longest active on-base streak in the International League...with the knock, Palacios ties former Red Wing Zander Wiel for the longest on-base streak for Rochester since 2019 when Wiel reached base safely in 22-straight games (8/11/19 - 9/2/19).
YOU'RE KIL-O-ME, SMALLS: Making his Red Wing debut last night, RHP Franklyn Kilome went 5.2 scoreless innings, giving up eight hits, walking two, and striking out two Storm Chasers...this marks the third time in 10 starts between Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Rochester that the righty has held the opponent scoreless in an outing.
HOT NOLL SUMMER: 2B Jake Noll collected his 22nd multi-hit game of the season, going 2-for-3 with a run scored in last night's contest...despite losing his 12-game hit streak on Thursday, the Florida-native has hit safely in 21-of-his-last 23 games dating back to 6/19...during that stretch, Noll is batting .310 (27-for-87) and leads the Red Wings in home runs (3), runs (10), and total bases (42), while tying for the team-lead in doubles (6, Ildemaro Vargas)...the righty also ranks second on the squad in RBI (12) during that stretch.
NOT AN ALU-SION: 3B Jake Alu hit his first Triple-A home run in the fifth inning of last night's game versus Kansas City's top affiliate...in his third game with Rochester, the 25-year-old went 1-for-3 with a home run, two RBI, and a run scored...he is 3-for-10 since being called up to the Wings...between Double-A Harrisburg and Triple-A Rochester, the Boston College alum has reached base safely in 24-straight games...the lefty has also extended his hitting streak to 13 games, batting .358 (19-for-53) during that stretch (6/12-7/15).
SAVING PRIVATE MURPHY: RHP Patrick Murphy picked up his second save in as many nights, registering a save in back-to-back games for the first time in his career...the righty is now 4-for-4 in save opportunities in his eight-year career...prior to Thursday night's save, Murphy had gone 134 outings since his last save which came on June 2, 2016, with High-A Lansing.
DOUBLE-LESS: For just the second time this season, the Wings have gone three-straight games without a double...outside the two three-game draughts, Rochester has not posted back-to-back games without a double...if the Wings fail to record a two-bagger in tonight's contest, they will post a new season-long double-less streak.
LO-GAINS: The Wings will send former Baltimore Oriole Logan Verrett to the mound tonight for his 15th start of the season (T-most on team with Cade Cavalli)...it will be his second career start against the Royals top-affiliate, with his first coming on August 16, 2014 as a member of Las Vegas (8.0 IP, 2 ER, 7 SO, 2 BB)...in his previous outing on July 10, he delivered his fourth quality start of the season (most on the Wings), tying his season-high with seven innings pitched, allowing just three hits while holding the IronPigs scoreless, and collecting four strikeouts in the process.
