DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (39-49) fell just short in their comeback attempt, dropping game five to the Buffalo Bisons (46-43) by a score of 6-5, Saturday at Principal Park.
Buffalo opened the scoring in the third with an RBI single from Otto Lopez to go up 1-0. They padded their lead with another run in the fourth on an RBI double from Nick Podkul.
The I-Cubs battled back and tied the game with two runs of their own in the home half of the fourth on a two-out, two-run double by Nelson Maldonado. It stayed tied at two until the sixth, when the Bisons took the lead back.
They did so with three runs on a two-run home run from Logan Warmoth and an RBI double by Spencer Horwitz. Buffalo scored again in the seventh on a wild pitch to take a 6-2 lead.
An RBI double from Narciso Crook highlighted a three-run eighth for Iowa to cut the lead to one, but Trent Thornton recorded the final four outs to close out Buffalo's third victory of the series.
