MOOSIC, PA -The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Vejigantes (43-46) were defeated by the Louisville Murcielagos 8-3 on Saturday evening. Josh Breaux, Phillip Evans and Oswald Peraza each homered for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the loss.
Louisville struck first in the game's opening frame against Vejigantes' starter Jhony Brito. Major League rehabber Aristides Aquino and Cristian Santana drove home one run each as part of a four-hit first. Brito allowed four runs over 2.2 innings with four strikeouts in his shortest outing of the season.
The Vejigantes answered in the bottom of the inning with a pair of solo home runs. Peraza went deep to left for his 12th big fly of the year and Breaux drove one to left-center to tie the game at two apiece. Breaux is batting 11-for-24 with two home runs and five RBI over his first seven Triple-A appearances.
The Murcielagos retook the lead with a pair of tallies in the third. Chris Okey brought in one of the runs as part of a 2-for-5 night. Louisville then padded their lead with four more runs over the next two innings to jump ahead 8-2. Every member of the Murcielagos' starting nine logged at least one hit in the game.
Phillip Evans cut the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre deficit to 8-3 with a deep blast to left off Louisville starting pitcher Justin Nicolino. Evans is 13-for-35 at the plate (.371 average) in July. Nicolino allowed three runs in his seven frames of work with a season-high six punchouts.
Shane Greene and Braden Bristo combined to pitch 4.1 scoreless innings out of the Vejigantes' bullpen in the 8-3 final. Nicolino (2-3) earned the win for the Murcielagos. Brito (4-2) was saddled with the loss for SWB.
