
Red Claws Hang on for 10th Win in 11 Games

White Plains, NY - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, lost a big lead but recovered to win their 10th game in 11 tries, taking down the Westchester Knicks, 110-103.
Maine (20-7) has already eclipsed their win total from all of last season. The Red Claws were led by Yante Maten, who finished with 23 points and 9 rebounds. Two-Way Player Tremont Waters continued his strong play with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Kaiser Gates scored 15 points in the win. Romeo Langford, on assignment from the Boston Celtics, added 14 points, while Trey Davis scored 14 off the bench.
Westchester (13-15) was led by Ignas Brazdeikis, who finished with 29 points.
Maten scored two early buckets to put Maine up 2. Jaysean Paige hit a fadeaway jumper to give the Claws a 13-6 lead. Sheldon Jeter put in a tough contested lay-up to put the Claws up 10, and Trey Davis' free throw gave Maine a 25-13 lead after 1 quarter. The Red Claws held Westchester to 21% (4-19) shooting, and just 1-9 from three-point range.
Langford and John Bohannon opened the 2nd with quick baskets, as Maine enjoyed a 31-18 lead. Davis buried a second-chance three to put the Claws up 15. Ignas Brazdeikis tried to keep the Knicks in the game, nailing a deep three to give him 11 points on the game and cutting the deficit to 40-32. Waters' three-point play helped right the ship, and Gates tough three late in the quarter helped give Miane a 54-46 lead at halftime. Waters led the Red Claws with 12 points, while Maten had 10 at the break.
Paige hit a tough three to make it a 68-55 game halfway through the 3rd. Former Red Claw Kadeem Allen scored 5 straight, but Maten stopped the run with a lay-up. Gates hit a big three to maintain the 13 point lead. The Knicks threw in a three quarter-court shot at the buzzer, but it was overturned, and Bohannon's three-point play helped give Maine an 85-75 lead after 3.
In the 4th, Davis scored 4 quick points to get the Red Claws back up 15, but J.J. Moore's three cut the Westchester deficit to 92-83. Moore's driving layup got it to 94-90. Bradzeikis made a lay-up and Moore hit a three, and suddenly the Knicks led 95-94 on a 12-2 run. Maten's three-point play gave Maine the lead back at 102-100. Waters hit two crucial buckets to extend the Maine lead. The Red Claws finished the game on an 8-0 run to put the game away.
Maine shot 46% (39-85) from the field, 41% (12-29) from three-point range, and 13-15 from the free throw line. Westchester shot 47% (40-85) from the floor, 38% (15-39) from downtown, and 5-9 from the charity stripe.
