Grand Rapids Drive News Release

HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL - The Grand Rapids Drive (16-12) had clutch performances from several players on Saturday night on their way to a 107-83 blowout victory over Windy City (11-16). Tra-Deon Hollins had the unique stat line of the night, finishing with 7 points, 18 assists, 11 rebounds and 3 steals. The unconventional double-double was the fourth in his last five games for Hollins and his 18 assists set a new franchise record, previously held by Speedy Smith (17 on 12/30/17 in Ft. Wayne).

After a somewhat slow start for both teams in the first half, the Drive dominated Windy City on both ends of the court to secure the easy win. Offensively, the Drive took full control in the paint by outscoring the home team 62-32. Grand Rapids also took advantage of second chance points with 18 compared to just 5 by the Bulls. On the defensive end, the Drive upheld their reputation as one of the top defensive teams in the league by out-rebounding the Bulls 59-42. Donta Hall served up a team-high 23 points, going 11-15 from the field, to go along with 9 rebounds. Dakarai Allen finished with a solid 19 points and 5 rebounds. Khalil Iverson added a solid 15 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks off the bench and Tre'Shawn Thurman contributed 13 points and 3 rebounds after getting the start. Other Drive players in double figures were Craig Sword (11 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists & 4 steals) and Devon Baulkman (10 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists & 2 steals). Adam Woodbury was just shy of a double-double, grabbing 14 rebounds to go with 9 points. The Drive were without their two two-way players

Justin Simon led the Bulls with an impressive double-double, earning 21 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals and 5 blocks. Big man Simisola Shittu dominated the paint for the Bulls, earning 17 points in addition to 8 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Thomas Wilder followed up with 14 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists and V.J. Beachem matched Wilder's 14 points while adding 7 rebounds and 2 steals of his own.

Windy City's tough defense helped them cut the deficit to single digits heading into the second half, but the home team's shooting woes allowed the Drive to extend the lead to as many as 29 points in the second half. The Drive outshot the Bulls 46% (40-87) to 30% (24-79) from the field. Additionally, the Drive's ability to crash the boards on defense (27-13) in the second half earned the team possessions that converted into transition opportunities.

The Drive's next stop on their four-game road trip is in Long Island. Grand Rapids will face off with the Nets Monday night at 7 p.m. The Bulls will next head to Canton to take on the Charge on Friday, January 31 at 7 p.m.
