Indiana Mad Ants News Release
El Segundo, Calif. - The Fort Wayne Mad Ants defeated the South Bay Lakers, 149-124, at the UCLA Health Training Center on Saturday night, which was the 300th regular-season victory in franchise history.
The Mad Ants (13-14) ended the record-setting victory with the second most points scored in a regular-season game in franchise history, behind only the 153-point performance vs. Reno on Jan. 13, 2015.
Fort Wayne led wire-to-wire for the fourth consecutive win, which included not having both two-way guards, Brian Bowen II and Naz Mitrou-Long.
In the first quarter, Fort Wayne jumped out to a 24-6 lead through the first 5:25 of the west-coast road trip. The Mad Ants eventually extended the lead against South Bay (10-19) to 43-23, which is the largest lead Fort Wayne has held in the opening quarter in a game this season. The 43 points also set a new team-high for the most points scored in a quarter this season.
Stephan Hicks, who hails from nearby Thousand Oaks, Calif., concluded the opening 12-minute surge with 13 of his game-high 30 points, including a 3-for-3 stretch from beyond the arc.
Hicks checked out of the game in front of the hometown crowd just 43 seconds before Fort Wayne would extend the lead to 33 on the night, which was the largest all night, at 145-112.
Hicks had all the help - and more - he needed on Saturday, as Fort Wayne will head to take on the Salt Lake City Stars on Tuesday night. All nine players who logged minutes recorded at least one made field goal, one rebound and one assist.
Saturday night was also the first time since Nov. 28, 2017 the Mad Ants ended the game with three players scoring at least 25 points in the same game.
C.J. Wilcox ended with a season-high 28 points on 11-of-17 shooting to go along with three assists, two steals and two rebounds.
Daxter Miles Jr. came off the bench to finish with 25 points on 11-of-17 shooting as well.
The Mad Ants ended the night one made 3-point field goal away from tying the franchise record (21) for most made in a single game.
The 32 assists from Fort Wayne tied the fifth most dished out in a game in franchise history as well.
The Mad Ants are back at home on Saturday, Feb. 1 against the Canton Charge for another Pizza Hut Family Night.
