South Bay Returns Home But Falls to Fort Wayne

EL SEGUNDO - The South Bay Lakers had their first home game in two weeks but could not grab a win as they lost to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, 149-124, on Saturday afternoon. Pierre Jackson scored 26 points and Kostas Antetokounmpo tallied his sixth double-double for South Bay (10-19) in the loss. Stephan Hicks paced the Mad Ants (13-14) with a game-high 30 points and 11 rebounds.

The Mad Ants got off to a hot start and held a 43-23 lead through one, behind 13 points in the quarter from Hicks. Antetokounmpo scored 10 points in the second quarter, but Fort Wayne maintained a 77-56 lead at the break.

Fort Wayne led 109-85 through three, despite 14 points in the third quarter from Jackson. Wayne Selden Jr. handled the scoring for South Bay in the fourth quarter with 11 points, but the Mad Ants were able to hold on for the win.

Hicks' double-double led the way for Fort Wayne as seven Mad Ants scored in double figures, including all five starters. C.J. Wilcox finished with 28 points and Daxter Miles Jr. scored 25 points off the bench. JaKeenan Gant (18 points, six rebounds, three steals), Ben Moore (15 points), Walt Lemon Jr. (12 points, seven rebounds, nine assists) and Tre Kelley (12 points, six assists) all reached double digits for Fort Wayne.

Jackson stuffed the stat sheet in his first game of the season, ending the night with 26 points, six rebounds and seven assists in 34 minutes off the bench. Antetokounmpo finished with 20 points, a career-best 14 rebounds, four assists and two steals and Zach Norvell Jr. did a bit of everything with 21 points, six rebounds and five assists. Reggie Hearn and Selden Jr. each scored 15 points and Javan Felix added 14 of his own to round out the double-digit scorers for South Bay.

South Bay will now travel up north to take on the Santa Cruz Warriors tomorrow night at 5:00pm from the Kaiser Permanente Arena in Santa Cruz, CA.
