Reading Takes 5-2 Win Over First Place Cyclones

CINCINNATI, Ohio - A 26 save performance from James Reimer paced the Reading Royals to a 5-2 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones on Friday night. Despite the loss, Cincinnati remains in first place in the North Division standings.

Reading raced out to a 2-0 lead in the first period. At 2:49, Dan Rudisuela netted his 16th goal of the season from Levi Nelson. A shorthanded goal at 16:21 from David Nimmo extended the edge. Nimmo stole the puck from a Cyclones attacker as he entered the neutral zone and then fired a shot past Loic Lacasse to open the 2-0 edge. Cincinnati outshot the Royals, 11-10, in the opening 20 minutes.

The Royals extended the lead to 3-0 when Levi Nelson netted his second goal of the season at 19:01. It was the 18th time this season that Cincinnati has allowed a goal in the final minute of a period.

Reading pushed the lead to 4-0 with a power play goal just 50 seconds into the final frame, as Rudisuela netted his second of the night and 17th of the year. Chris Ferazzoli;s first goal of the year at 5:31 from Dustin Sproat got Cincinnati started. Barret Ehgoetz netted his 19th goal of the year at 8:37 on the power play from Sproat and T.J. McElroy to cut the deficit in half at 4-2. Cincinnati had two goal mouth scrambles and a shot hit the goal post down the stretch, but was unable to put another goal on the board. An empty net goal from Dinos Stanoulis closed out the scoring in the defeat.

The Cyclones are now 32-22-5 on the season, while Reading is 20-35-4. The Cyclones close the weekend with another contest at Reading on Saturday night at 7pm. The game will be carried on MAX-FM (97.7 and 99.5).
