Bakersfield Condors News Release
STOCKTON, Calif. - RW Mike Wirll scored twice to pace the Bakersfield Condors to a 6-3 in front of 6,670 fans at Stockton Arena Friday night.
The Condors (26-28-7, 59pts) jumped out to a 2-1 lead through the first period of play. RW Mike Wirll lit the lamp just 1:43 into the game, scoring on the first Condors shot of the game. Stockton (28-28-5, 61pts) tied it up on the power play later in the period, with RW James Bates notching his 12th of the season on a redirection at 14:35. But LW Mark Derlago, one day removed from being named the ECHL's Player of the Month, notched his 26th of the season to regain the advantage less than a minute later.
Bakersfield extended the lead early in the second period. F Tylor Michel and F Matt Pope scored just 1:24 apart in the opening minutes to push the lead to 4-1. G Dave McKee held down the fort the rest of the way for Bakersfield. He stopped 14 shots in the period, including a pair of breakaways near the middle of the stanza, allowing the Condors to hold the three-goal lead through two.
The Thunder cut into the lead just over a minute into the third, with a power play blast by D Cleve Kinley. But Bakersfield weathered the Stockton storm long enough to jump back out to a three-goal advantage. Wirll notched his second of the night at 12:59, sneaking a snap shot through G Andrew Perugini for his 20th of the season, accounting for the final score. McKee finished with 39 saves in collecting his ninth win of the year.
