Dayton Bombers News Release

Elmira, NY - Andrew Fournier had two goals and Matt Auffrey added three points as the Dayton Bombers defeated the Elmira Jackals 6-3 at First Arena on Friday night.

Both teams struggled to gain control of the game in the first period. The Bombers got the first opportunity with the man advantage, although were unable to capitalize on the power play. Elmira also had one power play chance in the frame, but Dayton's special teams unit shut the Jackals out. Elmira held a 10-7 shots on goal lead at the end of the period.

Rookie Fournier was the first to light the lamp when Auffrey used an Elmira turnover to set up his teammate. Les Reaney also earned an assist on the play at the 4:51 mark. Minutes later Bombers goaltender David Shantz stopped a breakaway attempt by Benoit Doucet to maintain the 1-0 lead. Despite holding off a 5-on-3 Jackals power play, the Bombers saw their lead disappear as Steve Yetman netted his 22nd of the year as Elmira's power play expired. Moments later, Yetman netted his second goal of the game to give Elmira a 2-1 lead. Justin Chwedoruk would even the game at 2 with a goal at 11:19, assisted by Christian Gaudet. The Jackals continued to outshoot the Bombers, leading 27-16 after two periods.

Just over a minute into the third period Fournier again gave the Bombers a one goal lead with his fifth goal of the season. Auffrey earned his second assist of the game as well. But the lead would be shortlived as the Jackals answered once again, with Colton Yellow Horn netting his third goal in two games. Reaney would tally the eventual game-winner at 18:00 as Auffrey picked up his third assist of the night. Both Gaudet and Nino Musitelli would add empty netters to give the Bombers a 6-3 win in the final minute.

Shantz finished the night 33 of 36 for the win, while Elmira's Michael Teslak went 20 of 26. The Bombers were a perfect 6 of 6 pn the penalty kill.

The Bombers and Jackals face off tomorrow at 7:35 for the final contest in the team's six-game road trip. The game can be viewed online via the B2 Networks.
