Reading posts 2-0-2 record to remain in second place

The Reading Royals began the week protecting home ice with back-to-back victories in the North Division. The Royals upended Peoria on Tuesday night, 3-1, as Cail MacLean registered the game winner in the third period. The Royals battled Dayton on St. Patty's Day and blanked the Bombers, 2-0. Barry Brust recorded his fourth shutout win of the season stopping 31 shots. Reading's lone road game took place on Saturday night in Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City. The Bullies ended the Royals two-game win streak with a 3-2 shootout victory. Trevor Koenig stopped all five Royals shooters in the shootout to preserve the win for Atlantic City. Reading finished the week on Sunday in the Sovereign Center against Trenton. The Titans final visit to Reading in the regular season was a success. Trenton edged Reading in overtime, 2-1.

The Royals continue a stretch of eight games in 12 days this week. Reading will host three of the four contests in the Sovereign Center. Tuesday is Reading Eagle Voices Night...Students can purchase a top shelf ticket for just $5 with a valid student ID. Reading will battle Toledo for the eighth time this season. The Royals next host Dayton for the final time in the Sovereign Center on Thursday evening. Reading has posted a 6-1-0 mark against the Bombers this season. The Johnstown Chiefs visit the Sovereign Center on Friday night. All Star Distributing is handing out Labatt Blue Royals window clings to the first 1,500 fans, 21 and over. All three games in the Sovereign Center begin at 7:05 p.m. The Royals travel to Trenton on Saturday to finish off their ten-game regular season series with the Titans.

Tuesday, March 15 vs. Peoria Sovereign Center 7:05PM ET

GAME NOTES: Reading dealt a blow to Peoria's playoff hopes with a 3-1 victory in the Sovereign Center. Captain Cail MacLean scored on the power play 3:43 into the final period to put Reading up 2-1, while David Masse added the icing on the victory with an empty-net goal. Mike Sandbeck also tallied a goal for Reading, who improved to 4-2-0 against the Rivermen.

Thursday, March 17 vs. Dayton Sovereign Center 7:05PM ET

GAME NOTES: Barry Brust recorded his third shutout in six starts stopping 31 shots to send the Bombers home with a 2-0 defeat. Graig Mischler and Preston Mizzi accounted for the Royals markers. For Mischler, it was his team-leading fourth game winner (tied with Mike Sandbeck).

Saturday, March 19 @ Atlantic City Boardwalk Hall 7:05PM ET

GAME NOTES: For the third time in eight games this season, Atlantic City beat Reading in overtime or a shootout. Paul Caponigri was the only scorer in the shootout as the Bullies held onto first place in the North with a 3-2 win. Tom Galvin and Cail MacLean accounted for the Royals markers in regulation.

Sunday, March 20 vs. Trenton Sovereign Center 5:05PM ET

GAME NOTES: The Trenton Titans beat Reading for the second straight game, needing extra time in the process. The Titans beat Reading in overtime 2-1 on Matt Libby's overtime tally. Reading's lone goal came from Graig Mischler in the second stanza.

THIS WEEK Tuesday, March 22 vs. Toledo Sovereign Center 7:05PM ET

GAME NOTES: Toledo makes it's second to last visit to the Sovereign Center on Tuesday. Reading has had the better of the season series posting a 4-2-1 record versus the Storm. Toledo and Reading finish off the season series on Thursday, April 7, the Royals final regular season home game.

Thursday, March 24 vs. Dayton Sovereign Center 7:05PM ET

GAME NOTES: Reading beat Dayton for the second straight week, shutting out the Bombers 2-0 last week. This is the final meeting in the Sovereign Center between these two clubs. Reading and Dayton will meet in Dayton on April Fool's Day, April 1, for the ninth and final time.

Friday, March 25 vs. Johnstown Sovereign Center 7:05PM ET

GAME NOTES: The Royals and Chiefs meet for the final time in the regular season. Reading won for the first time in Johnstown in the regular season in nearly two years on March 6. The Royals claimed their second Keystone Cup, battle of Pennsylvania, with the win. This is the seventh meeting between the two clubs in the regular campaign.

Saturday, March 26 @ Trenton Sovereign Bank Arena 7:00PM ET

GAME NOTES: The Royals and Titans finish off a ten-game regular season set Saturday in Trenton. The Royals look to a break a two-game slide versus their closest rival. Reading is 1-2-1 in Trenton this season and 3-4-2 overall this season.

Barry Brust continued his hot play this week, recording his fifth and sixth straight wins. Brust stopped 27 shots on Tuesday to lift the Royals over the Peoria Rivermen 3-1. He continued his hot play on Thursday with a 31-save shutout performance at the hands of the Dayton Bombers. The Swan River, Manitoba native ended the week with a shootout loss in Atlantic City stopping 25 of 27 in the 3-2 decision.
