March 21, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL)
Fresno Falcons News Release

LAST WEEK'S RECORD: 1-1-0 OVERALL RECORD: 35-20-7, 77 pts.

March 15 vs. Alaska, 5-2 Loss - The Falcons jumped out to a 2-0 lead through the first period behind goals from Charles Simard and John Wroblewski and took a 2-1 advantage to the third. But just six seconds into the final period Alaska scored the game-tying goal before tacking on three more to win going away, snapping Fresno's six-game home winning streak.

March 18 @ Las Vegas, 2-1 Overtime Win - For the second Friday night in a row, the Falcons found themselves trailing the Wranglers 1-0 after two periods at The Orleans Arena. At 14:06 of the third, though, Terry Marchant scored off a rebound while on the power play to eventually send the game to overtime. With less than two minutes gone in the extra session and again skating with the man advantage, Derek Krestanovich then netted his 19th of the season to help Fresno break a two-game losing skid.

NOTES

. Derek Krestanovich's game-winning goal on Friday was the team's third overtime winner this year.

. Shaun Sutter is tied for the league-lead with 14 power play goals this season.

. Charles Simard is sixth in the league in scoring among defensemen with 42 points (7g-35a).

. Goaltender Brett Jaeger is tied for sixth in the league in save percentage (93.0%) and 11th in the league in goals against average (2.32).

. Coupled with a 4-1 loss to Bakersfield on March 13, last Tuesday's set-back to Alaska marked Fresno's first back-to-back losses since a pair of defeats to the Long Beach Ice Dogs on Jan. 29 and 30. The two straight home losses were the team's first two-game slide at Save Mart Center since two losses to the Aces on Nov. 5 and 6.

. The Falcons are ranked 4th (19.2%) on the power play and 9th (85.3%) on the penalty kill.

. Fresno begins the week out of the final playoff spot in the West Division for the first time since Jan. 2. They are in fifth place, one point behind the now fourth-place Idaho Steelheads, who have won four straight games and are 15-1-3 in their last 19 games. The Falcons, though, have one game in hand, which they'll make-up tomorrow night. Both teams will have played 63 games when they begin their three-game showdown on Thursday in Boise.
