Bakersfield Forfeits Friday Win Against Alaska

March 21, 2005 - ECHL (ECHL) News Release

PRINCETON, N.J. - The ECHL announced on Monday that because it unknowingly played an ineligible player, Bakersfield must forfeit its 3-1 win against Alaska on Friday, March 18.

Bakersfield defenseman Chris Twerdun played in the game, but Twerdun was not eligible to come off the 30-day injured reserve until Sunday, March 20.

In accordance with ECHL rules, Alaska will be credited with a 1-0 forfeit win, but the individual statistics accumulated in the game are not changed.

"While this situation was the result of an unintentional error, ECHL teams are responsible for ensuring that each of their players are eligible to play according to League Rules and Regulations," said ECHL Commissioner Brian McKenna.

The record and points will be adjusted accordingly in the ECHL statistics. Alaska is 40-17-7 with 87 points and Bakersfield is 37-18-9 with 83 points.
