Swamp Marsters

Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Lafayette, LA – On Saturday night the Victoria Salmon Kings found a scoring touch they had been lacking all season long. On Sunday they went skating through the swamps of Louisiana and were Gator bit. Louisiana defeated Victoria 2-1.

Ice Gators Goaltender Nathan Marsters who seemed to fight every puck sent his way in the 7-5 loss of game one came to play in game two. The Salmon Kings fired 37 shots his way and he shut the door on all but one occasion.

In a game with 29 minor penalties and a third period dominated by the Salmon Kings, out-shooting the Ice Gators 19 to 1, Victoria helped Louisiana set two records, least shots in a single period with one, and least shots in a game with 13.

Special teams were the order of the day in the Deep South. The Ice Gators opened the scoring with a shorthanded breakaway goal after the Salmon Kings coughed the puck up at the blueline. Pascal Pelletier broke in on Jaime McCaig and beat him blocker side to give Louisiana the lead at the first intermission.

At 11:04 of the second the Salmon Kings struck back on the powerplay. It should be no surprise to Salmon Kings fans that the puck came off the stick of forward Scott Turner. Turner has 9 goals and 5 assists in the last 10 games. It is also no surprise that the assist came from Ryan Wade who leads the team with 46 points.

Louisiana came back just two minutes later to take the lead. Shawn Skiehar and Jake Ortmeyer set up Wes Mason's team leading 28th goal of the season. The Ice Gators then leaned on the solid back stop Marsters to close out the Salmon Kings.

Victoria's 8 game road-trip continues in Pensacola, FL on Tuesday before they move on to Biloxi, MI to take on the Sea Wolves Wednesday evening.
