Wheeling Nailers News Release

READING, PA - The Reading Royals offense exploded for a 9-3 win over the Wheeling Nailers Saturday night at Sovereign Center. The Nailers got goals from BJ Radovich, Vadim Slivchenko and Aaron Clarke but it was not enough to overcome a hat trick from Reading's Ned Lukacevic.

Three, unanswered, first period goals set the pace for the Royals. Shawn Collymore took a pass from Patrick Jarrett and wristed it just over the glove of Curtis Darling at 3:49. Brock Hooten expanded the Royals lead at 5:22 during 4-on-4 play. With tons of open ice, Hooten skated from his own zone straight into the Nailers' slot and wristed one home. The Royals upped the score to 3-0 on Ned Lukacevic's first of the game. It came from Scott Parse and Shawn Germain at 12:11.

The second period was more of the same as the Royals added three more, this time two came on the power play. Collymore and Lukacevic each added their second of the game at 4:28 and 14:34 respectively. Just over two minutes later, Darling was replaced by Peter Vetri in goal for just his second appearance in the ECHL this season. He was greeted with Scott Parse's fourth goal of the season at 19:01 to give Reading a 6-0 advantage.

Wheeling got on the board first in the third period despite shorthanded. Radovich released a quick wrist shot from the top of the right circle that handcuffed Terry Denike and settled in the back of the net. It was the fifth goal of the season for Radovich and his first shorthanded tally of the year.

Reading had the answer 32 seconds later on Hooten's second of the game from Kevin Saurette. Lukacevic then completed the hat trick at by converting a wraparound 5:24.

With the score 8-1, it was another shorthanded goal for the Nailers that brought them back within five. This time it was Slivchenko who snapped home a one-timer from Radovich and Mike Gooch at 8:47 for his ninth of the year. Just before that same penalty expired, Steven Later slapped one past Vetri to make the score 9-2.

The final goal of the game came at 13:52 when Clarke chased down a long pass from Justin Chwedoruk and quickly launched it over the glove of Denike.

Wheeling's road trip continues with a game against Elmira on Monday at 7:05pm. They will play in Trenton on Thursday before returning home to take on the Cincinnati Cyclones on Saturday. The first 2,500 fans inside WesBanco Arena on March 22 will receive a Moondog bobblehead. Tickets are still available by calling 304-234-GOAL or by visiting www.wheelingnailers.com.
