South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays got goals by Rory Rawlyk, Todd Griffith and Pierre-Luc O'Brien, along with another solid performance by Davis Parley, and defeated the Florida Everblades 3-1 at the North Charleston Coliseum.
"We came out with a lot of energy and intensity tonight," said Head Coach Jared Bednar. "The last two games have really felt like playoff games, and I like the way we have responded."
It was the Florida Everblades who struck first in the first period, as Kenndal McArdle got his second goal in just his third game as a member of the Everblades, to give the Blades a 1-0 at 11:39. The South Carolina Stingrays however were able to answer less than a minute later when Rory Rawlyk got his second goal of the year at 12:37 from Chris Chaput and Scott Romfo. Less than a minute after that it was Todd Griffith on a break away giving the Rays the lead 2-1. The goal came at 13:19 from Romfo and was Griffith's 15th goal of the season, his 2nd as a member of the Rays.
South Carolina jumped on the board again, very early in the second period when Pierre-Luc O'Brien got his 11th goal of the year from Griffith and Grant McNeill. The goal came just :16 seconds into the period and gave the Rays a 3-1 lead that they would take into the locker room after two periods of play.
Things began to get very chippy in the third period, with a number of penalties were called on both teams, and one member of the Everblades was assessed a game misconduct. Through all of that, there were no goals scored in the period, and the Rays were able to skate off a 3-1 victory of the Florida Everblades.
The winning goaltender was Davis Parley who stopped 34 of the 35 shots he faced. The losing goaltender was Kevin Nastiuk who stopped 31 of the 34 shots he faced. The Rays were 0-5 on the power play, while killing off all six short handed situations they faced. South Carolina has now successfully killed off 41 straight penalties dating back to March 1st.
The Rays are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they play host to the Columbia Inferno. Game time will be at 4:00 P.M
