Elmira Jackals News Release

JOHNSTOWN, PA -Ervins Mustukovs stopped 23 shots for his first shutout of the season while the Elmira Jackals received goals from three different skaters in a 3-0 win over the Johnstown Chiefs in front of 2,585 fans at the Cambria County War Memorial. The win kept the Jackals one point ahead of Reading, 9-3 winners over Wheeling, and in second place in the North Division.

The Jackals got on the board first for a 12th consecutive contest during a delayed penalty against the Chiefs. Bruce Watson was credited with his sixth of the year when his shot from the left circle squeezed through the pads of starting goaltender Andrew Penner (8 saves in 23:03) for a 1-0 lead.

Picking up a power play early in the middle period, Elmira doubled its lead and sent Penner to the Johnstown bench. Penner appeared to have a good look at Chris Busby's left point drive, but could get the pad over in time as the puck found the back of the net at 3:03 for a 2-0 advantage.

Luke Fritshaw then capped off second period scoring when he scored an ECHL goal for the first time in forty games (February 10, 2006, at Victoria) when he sent a rising blast over the arm of Ryan Nie (13 saves) with just nine seconds left in the middle period and a 3-0 lead heading into the second intermission break.

Mustukovs registered his third career ECHL shutout in winning his second straight decision to move to 4-1-1 on the season.

Pierre-Luc Faubert had his club record 11-game point scoring streak end in the win. It was the first contest since February 16th that Faubert had failed to register at least one point in a game.

The Jackals return to home ice Monday night for a 7:05 p.m. St. Patrick's Night tilt against the Wheeling Nailers. Good seats are on sale now at all Ticketmaster outlets including the Gray Street box office, www.ticketmaster.com, or charge-by-phone at 722-3711 or 734-PUCK (7825).
