Las Vegas, NV - The Las Vegas Wranglers edged the Utah Grizzlies 4-3 in front of 6,382 fans at the Orleans Arena on Saturday night. Captain Peter Ferraro netted the game-winning goal at 13:29 to complete a third-period comeback. Goalie Kevin Lalande tied a career-high with 41 saves on the evening. Las Vegas won its' 40th game of the season, marking the fourth time in five years the team has hit the 40-win plateau. Forwards Tyler Moseinko, Bruce Mulherin and Nathan Barrett each scored in the victory, as Las Vegas lowered the magic number to clinch the National Conference and Pacific Division to 11 points. The Wranglers will host Alaska on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday night at the Orleans Arena at 7:05 pm.
The two teams traded goals in the first period with Las Vegas striking first. Left wing Bruce Mulherin poked in a rebound for his 14th goal of the season at 8:08, giving the Wranglers a 1-0 lead. Utah countered at 15:34, tying the game 1-1 as Sean Offers scored off a rebound on the power-play.
The Wranglers regained their lead at 2-1 just 22-seconds into the second period as Tyler Mosienko scored his 22nd of the season. The power-play goal was set up by Peter Ferraro. The Grizzlies roared back to take the lead with two goals in less than a minute mid-way through the period. Left wing Scott Burt scored his 24th goal of the season at 12:16, tying the game 2-2. Forward Evan Kotsopoulos gave Utah the 3-2 lead just 51-seconds later with his seventh goal of the season at 13:05.
Las Vegas continued to trail until Nathan Barrett scored his first goal as a Wrangler at 4:52 of the third period, tying the game 3-3. Barrett scored his fourth goal of the season by redirecting a Jason Dest shot from the left point. Captain Peter Ferraro put the Wranglers in front with his team-leading 32nd goal of the season at 13:29, pushing Las Vegas in front 4-3. Ferraro was set up behind the Utah net and fired the puck off the back of Utah goalie Wylie Rogers for the go-ahead tally and the win.
The Wranglers will host Alaska starting Tuesday, March 18th at 7:05 pm at the Orleans Arena. Alaska will remain in Las Vegas for games on Thursday and Friday night at 7:05 pm.
