Rays Get Final 2004-05 Schedule
Published on July 27, 2004 under ECHL (ECHL)
South Carolina Stingrays News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. The South Carolina Stingrays released their final 2004-05 regular season schedule this afternoon. The Rays are set to play in their twelfth season in the ECHL. The two time Kelly Cup Champions will play a 72 game schedule beginning on October 22nd in Columbia against the Inferno. The team's home opener will take place the following night on October 23rd against the Charlotte Checkers.
The Stingrays schedule changed to reflect the departure of the Greensboro Generals and the Roanoke Express from the ECHL. The Rays received two more weekend home dates and drastically cut their travel on the new schedule.
"We are very pleased with the way this new schedule has been put together," mentioned Stingrays President Taylor Lee, whose team resubmitted several available weekend dates at the North Charleston Coliseum after the departure of the North Charleston Low Gators of the NBDL. "We picked up two weekend dates in January which will give our overall attendance a good push. The new schedule also makes a significant dent in our overall travel and helps our bottom line with a reduction in hotel nights."
The Stingrays have never failed to qualify for the ECHL's Kelly Cup Playoffs. Last season the Rays finished with a record of 39-28-5 and qualified for the playoffs before losing in the second round to the Florida Everblades.
South Carolina will still open up on the road in Columbia before its home opener with the Charlotte Checkers on the 23rd of October.
"The ECHL did a great job keeping most of the key dates and opponents the same for its teams," added Lee. "At this late stage, most teams already have marketing plans in place. A complete overhaul of the ECHL's schedule would have had a negative affect league wide."
This year's schedule features a two game home series against the Texas Wildcatters, a central division foe that will make its first ever visit to the Coliseum on March 6th and 8th. The Johnstown Chiefs will visit the coliseum for a two game set in January. The team's road schedule will take it to Atlantic City for the first time ever on November 20th and on a four game six day road trip to Texas, Mississippi and Pensacola in February.
The regular season schedule will wrap up for the Stingrays on April 9th in Charlotte. The team's final home game will be played against the Augusta Lynx on Saturday, April 2nd.
The Stingrays are selling a variety of season ticket packages starting for as little as $55.00. For more information call 744-2248.
