Columbia Inferno News Release

Columbia, SC, July 27, 2004— The Columbia Inferno is proud to announce the renewal of their affiliation with the American Hockey League's Manitoba Moose for the 2004-2005 season. The agreement is a one-year extension of an existing agreement that will see the Moose and Inferno continue to work together to develop players within the Vancouver Canucks organization.

"We look to continue our strong partnership for the upcoming season and build on last year's success," said Head Coach Scott White. "The affiliation has developed and will continue to produce call-ups from the ECHL to the American Hockey League."

Inferno fans will have the opportunity to watch some of Manitoba's prospects as they prepare for the road ahead. Last year, the Inferno had seven players throughout the course of the season who were sent to Columbia from Manitoba for various reasons.

"We are pleased to renew our partnership with the Columbia Inferno," stated Moose General Manager Craig Heisinger. "The affiliation has already been a successful working relationship as seen by the number of Columbia Inferno players moving from the ECHL to the American Hockey League level."

The Moose and Inferno first formed an affiliation for the 2002-03 season after coming to a "working agreement" three years ago. In that span, the Inferno have been responsible for the development of a number of players in the Moose system including prospects such as Tim Smith, Alex Burrows, Jesse Schultz, Rob McVicar, and Brandon Nolan.

Smith was the leading scorer in the ECHL with a league-high 62 assists and 95 points, as well as a +40 rating. He was also the first-ever member of the Inferno to be named to the All-ECHL First Team.

The Inferno open the season on Friday, October 22nd against the South Carolina Stingrays. Season, group and partial game packages are available by calling 256-7825.
