Revised Royals 2004-05 Schedule Released
July 27, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Reading Royals News Release
Reading, PA â The ECHL, in cooperation with member clubs, released a revised schedule for the 2004-05 season. The schedule change was necessitated following the termination of memberships in Greensboro and Roanoke by the ECHL Board of Governors.
For the fourth straight season, the Northern Division Champion Reading Royals will begin the season in Trenton, New Jersey against the Titans on Friday, October 22. The Royals will host the Titans the following night in the Sovereign Center for their home opener. Reading and Trenton's rivalry begins a week earlier with a pair of preseason games on October 15 and 16.
The Royals schedule remains extremely balanced with the majority of their schedule facing off among the National Conference's North Division (63 of 72 regular season contests). Reading skates against the Peoria Rivermen, Wheeling Nailers and aforementioned Trenton Titans ten times with each club hosting five battles. The Royals will square off against the Dayton Bombers and Toledo Storm nine times with the Royals hosting five games in each regular season series. The Royals and Pennsylvania state rival Johnstown Chiefs will tangle seven times with Reading playing host to four of those contests.
The Royals will begin the majority of 2004-05 season on the road. Eighteen of the club's first 27 contests will be away from the friendly confines of the Sovereign Center. Conversely, Reading will close the regular season from March 1 to April 9 with 15 of the final 21 games in the "Jungle" in Reading. The Royals longest road swing is a club record eight games, beginning December 18 and ending January 4 of the New Year. Reading's longest home stand is just four games, however this takes place on four separate occasions (once in November, twice in March and once in April).
Reading's nine non-divisional contests are highlighted by first-time meetings with the Mississippi Sea Wolves, Louisiana Ice Gators and Pensacola Ice Pilots during their season high eight-game road trip. The Royals will meet a foe from each division at least once. The American Conference East Division opponent will be the South Carolina Stingrays who will visit the Sovereign Center on November 19. Reading will battle American Conference South Division opponents Mississippi (2), Pensacola and Texas (2) in December and early January on the road. Finally, Bakersfield represents the National Conference West Division with a pair of games in the Sovereign Center on January 7th and 11th.
