Rays Acquire Goaltender Boutin from Victoria

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach Jared Bednar announced today that goaltender Jonathan Boutin has been acquired from the Victoria Salmon Kings in exchange for future considerations.

Boutin, 23, has played 16 games with Salmon Kings this season going 10-4-2 with a 2.37 goals-against average, a .921 save percentage and two shut-outs. The Grandby, PQ native spent all of last season with the Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League going 13-18-3 with a 3.31 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage. Overall, the is 6-foot-2, 206-pound netminder has seen action in 98 AHL contests going 30-48-6.

Prior to turning pro, Boutin played in 130 combined games for The Halifax Mooseheads, Prince Edward Island Rockets, and Quebec Ramparts in the QMJHL while totalling 63 wins, 43 loses, seven ties, and six shutouts. In those four seasons he posted a .895 save percentage.

Boutin, originally a third round draft pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, is not expected to join the team for a few weeks due to immigration.

The Stingrays are in action tonight against the Gwinnett Gladiators at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum.
