January 27, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Phoenix RoadRunners News Release
PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks and the Worcester Sharks, are pleased to announce that goaltender Craig Kowalski has been named the RBK Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Jan. 19-25.
Kowalski, 27, went 2-0-0 with a 1.00 goals against average and a .969% save percentage as the RoadRunners swept the Stockton Thunder last weekend at Stockton Arena. The Clinton Township, Mich. native and fifth-year professional stopped 33 of 34 shots and recorded the primary assist on Dan DaSilva's game-winning shorthanded goal in the second period Friday to propel Phoenix to a 4-1 victory, and then came back Sunday to turn aside 29 of 30 shots in a 5-1 RoadRunners win.
Kowalski is 14-11-1 on the season with a 2.94 goals against average and a .920% save percentage, and also has two assists to his credit.
It's the second time this season and the fourth time in his career that Kowalski has been named the ECHL Goaltender of the Week. He last received the honor for the week of Dec. 1-7, 2008 after going 2-0-0 with a 0.60 goals against average and a .980% save percentage in two starts against the Las Vegas Wranglers.
Kowalski becomes the first RoadRunners' goalie in the club's ECHL history to be honored by the league twice in the same season.
It's also the third time in the four-year ECHL history of the club that a RoadRunners' goalie has received the league's weekly award. Cody Rudkwosky was named the ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Dec. 11-17, 2006 after going 2-0-1 in three starts with a 1.94 goals against average and a .945% save percentage, which included a 51-save shutout of the Texas Wildcatters on Dec. 15, 2006.
Phoenix concludes a three-game road trip at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday when they visit the Las Vegas Wranglers at the Orleans Arena. Catch all the action live at www.phxroadrunners.com beginning with "RoadRunners Countdown" at 8:15 p.m.
The RoadRunners return to US Airways Center at 7:05 p.m. Friday when they welcome the Utah Grizzlies.
