North Charleston, SC - In his first game back after being assigned from the Rockford Ice Hogs, Adam Berti notched the game winning goal in overtime to help lift the Gladiators to a 3-2 win over the South Carolina Stingrays on Tuesday night at the North Charleston Coliseum. Berti picked up a rebound on a power play and whacked the puck past Stingrays netmidner Ian Vigier for the marker. Brennan Turner and Dirk Southern had the assists on the game winning power play goal for Gwinnett at 2:18 overtime. The Gladiators improve to 18-18-4 with the victory.
Gwinnett opened up a 1-0 lead on the Stingrays late in the first period. Jordan Fox found a loose puck in the slot and flicked it over an outstretched Vigier for the tally. Mike Looby and Matt Siddall posted the assists on the goal at 16:28 of the first period for Gwinnett.
Jeff Mason pushed the Gladiators lead to 2-0 with his 5th goal of the season. Mason picked up a rebound in the right wing circle and punched the puck past Vigier just 2:39 into the second period. Dirk Southern and Pat Bateman notched the assists on the goal for Gwinnett.
South Carolina tied the game at two with a pair of quick goals from Maxime Lacroix early in the third period. Lacroix's first came just 51 seconds into the third as he was able to jam a loose puck past Gladiators netminder Joe Fallon for the goal. Nate Kiser had an assist on the goal.
Lacroix's second came at 4:42 of the third period. Sliding free in the left wing circle, Lacroix was wide open and able to flick the puck past Fallon for the marker. Travis Morin and Johann Kroll notched the assists on the goal for South Carolina but the Stingrays could get no closer.
Fallon again set a new career best posting 45 saves in the win. Gwinnett went 1-for-6 on the power play in the victory.
