Bakersfield Condors News Release
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors, official affiliate of the Anaheim Ducks, have announced that the 5th Annual Condors Fighting Cancer Hockey-Thon, a collaborative initiative of the Bakersfield Condors, Bakersfield Ice Sports Center and Links for Life, is slated for the weekend of Feb. 21-22. To date, the Hockey-Thon has raised more than $162,000 for Links for Life, a local breast cancer resource center.
The Hockey-Thon is comprised of a 41-hour hockey marathon for participants of all ages and skill levels, includes two Condors games and highlighted with a first-ever Condors Alumni vs. West Coast All-Star Alumni Game, in which the former Condors will be wearing specially-designed pink breast cancer awareness jerseys that will be auctioned off following their game.
Participants can sign up by following the link on the Condors home page. After filling out a simple registration form, each participant can print a pledge sheet and start collecting pledges. Each participant must raise a minimum of $250 in pledges in order to play. The top three pledge collectors will split 20 lower level tickets to an LA Kings game. Also, the first 200 people to sign-up will receive a free 5th Annual Fighting Cancer Hockey-Thon jersey. All participants will receive two Condors tickets to each of the games on Saturday, Feb. 21 (noon) and Sunday, Feb. 22 (2 p.m).
The Hockey-Thon originally began as the brain child of Condors Legend Kevin Barrett, shortly after losing his mother to breast cancer. Proceeds from the event benefit Links for Life, as they continue to provide a myriad of resources from support groups and wigs to mammograms and scholarships for local women affected by breast cancer.
The event begins Friday, Feb. 20 at 11:59 p.m. at the Bakersfield Ice Sports Center, behind Rabobank Arena. All through the night, Hockey-Thon participants will take part in organized hockey games, playing other teams and players at their own skill level. The first session of games will conclude at 11 a.m. on Feb. 21, so that participants can make their way over to The Nest for the Condors game against the Victoria Salmon Kings at noon.
Following that Condors game, the Hockey-Thon will reconvene at the Ice Sports Center at 3 p.m. for an afternoon and second night of hockey, before concluding Ice Sports Center action at 11:30 a.m. on Feb. 22, in order to view the highly-anticipated Alumni Game at Rabobank Arena. All Hockey-Thon participants and those with tickets to the Condors game on Sunday will be able to watch the Condors Alumni team, featuring Jamie Cooke, Quinn Fair, Scott Hay, Glen Mears, Paul Rosebush, Paul Willett and others, pitted against a team of former West Coast Alumni from the Fresno Falcons, San Diego Gulls and Long Beach Ice Dogs. The Condors Alumni team will also feature a reserved roster spot and coaching position for the winners of an on-line auction at a later date (TBD).
To conclude the Hockey-Thon, the Condors will host the Salmon Kings for their regularly scheduled game at 2 p.m. on Sunday. During the intermissions, the Alumni game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off, and an opportunity drawing and silent auction table will be set up during the Condors game, offering great prizes and items.
