Dayton Bombers News Release
Dayton, OH- The Dayton Bombers were defeated by the Elmira Jackals 4-2 on Tuesday night at the Ervin J. Nutter Center.
The Bombers surrendered the first goal to Elmira at 8:08 in the first when Benoit Doucet put the puck past Dayton's Tyler Plante. Then two minutes later Elmira struck again when Chris Korchinski scored his 16th goal of the year on a penalty shot. The Jackals grew their lead to 3-0 in the first as Pierre-Luc Faubert tallied a shorthanded goal at 13:19. Finally Dominic D'Amour put the Bombers on the board with his seventh of the season, assisted by Dan Riedel and Nino Musitelli. Heading into the locker room, the Bombers were outshooting the Jackals 12-6.
The second period started with the Jackals being awarded a second penalty shot less than a minute into play. Plante successfully turned away the second attempt. Rookie Justin Bowers cut the lead to one when he took a feed from Kelly Perrault and Brock Wilson at 12:27 of the second. But the Jackals would regain the two-goal advantage in the closing minute of the frame. After two periods, shots on goal favored the Bombers 29-13.
Despite a scoreless final period, Dayton continued to press, sending another 13 shots toward Jackals goalie Michael Teslak. In all, the Bombers outshot the Jackals 42-16.
Absent from the action was Bombers' team captain Greg Labenski, who celebrated the birth of twin girls this morning with his wife, Joyce.
The Cincinnati Cyclones visit the Nutter Center for back-to-back games on Friday, January 30 and Saturday, January 31 at 7:30 p.m. Stick around after the game on Saturday for the live, game-worn White Jersey Auction on the Flight Deck.
