
Rattlers Toss a Shutout at Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - Justin Jarvis continued his hot streak on the mound and he was supported by a pair of home runs in the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 4-0 win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Perfect Game Field on Wednesday night. Jarvis is 2-0 and has allowed two runs over 13-2/3 innings in two starts for Wisconsin in the second half of the season.
Leugim Castillo gave the Rattlers (35-40 overall, 4-2 second half) the lead when he cracked his first home run of the season. Castillo's blast was a solo shot with one out in the top of the third inning.
Brice Turang scored on a wild pitch in the top of the sixth inning for a 2-0 lead.
The Kernels (42-34, 3-3) had their best chance to score against Jarvis in the first inning. Jacob Pearson started the frame with a double. Jarvis got the first out of the inning with a strikeout. Then, Pearson took off early for third base. Jarvis stepped off the rubber and threw to third in time to get Pearson.
Cedar Rapids got the first two runners on base with an error and a single in the bottom of the third. Jarvis ended the threat by getting a 6-4-3 double play and a flyball to right.
Jarvis tossed 6-2/3 innings, allowed three hits, walked two, and struck out four on Wednesday night. Jarvis has not allowed a run since the first inning of his start at home on June 20 and has run his scoreless innings streak to 12-2/3 frames.
Robbie Hitt took over for Jarvis with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning and got the final out of that frame before working 1-2-3 eighth.
Gabriel GarcÃa gave Wisconsin some breathing room when he hit a two-run home run in the top of the ninth inning and the Rattlers were up 4-0. The home run was the seventh of the season for GarcÃa.
Anthony Bender closed out the game with a perfect bottom of the ninth.
Both teams have one win in the first two games of the four-game series. Both teams have five wins in the first ten games of the season series.
Game three of the series is set for Thursday night at Perfect Game Field. Freisis Adames (2-0, 3.04) is the scheduled starting pitcher for Wisconsin. The Kernels have not named a starting pitcher for Thursday yet. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35pm. .
