Rankin Nets Five as Walleye Destroy Cincinnati

(Cincinnati, OH) Evan Rankin's five goal night led the Walleye to a dominating 7-3 win Saturday night in Cincinnati. Toledo has an overall record of 45-19-2-3 and 20-11-2-2 on the road. Walleye return home Sunday to host Wheeling.

It was a big first period for Evan Rankin and the Walleye. Rankin's first goal of the night came on a rebound off of Josh Shalla's shot at 2:17. The 15th goal of the year for Rankin came at 11:03 of the opening period when Evan grabbed his own rebound and slid the puck under the pads of Cincinnati goaltender Andy Iles.

Former Cincinnati Cyclone forward Josh Shalla scored his 20th goal of the season for the Walleye at 6:05 of the second period with a deflection of a pass from Tyler Sikura. Dominic Zombo (10th) made it 4-0 Walleye just 1:49 into the third period.

Rankin scored his third of the game at 10:26 and wasn't done with goal number four coming on a rebound at 14:08. His fifth goal of the night and 18th of the season came on the power play at 16:01 of the third period. Toledo's power play finished the game three of five.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jake Paterson finished the game with 29 saves on the 34 shots he faced and his record improves to 17-9-1-1. Toledo completed the season series with Cincinnati with a record of 2-3-0. Rank tied his own Toledo Walleye record with five goals set on February 8, 2010 at Charlotte.
