Jackals Rally From Three-Goal Deficit in Third to Earn One Point in Shootout Loss

BRAMPTON, ON - Kyle Bushee, Tyler Currier and Jacob MacDonald each recorded third period goals to erase a three-goal deficit in the final 11:44 of regulation and help the Jackals earn one point in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Brampton Beast. Shane Owen made 22 saves and stopped four out of five shootout attempts.

The Beast pulled ahead first with the opening strike at 5:56 of the first period. Brampton capitalized off of a neutral zone turnover with David Ling blasting a shot from the right wing circle off the far post and in for his fourth goal of the season. Nick McParland and Jeff Brown were credited with the assists.

Brampton increased its lead at 10:06 of the second period as the puck popped out from behind the Jackals net onto the stick of Nick McParland who was walking into the slot looking for loose change. Steve Mele and Daniel Vernace assisted McParland's ninth goal of the season.

Just over five minutes later the Beast added a power-play goal and went up 3-0 at 15:30 of the second period. Travis Brown passed the puck to David Ling who threw it towards the net-front and Jeff Brown played the pass off of his skate to his stick, banging in his 14th goal of the season.

The Jackals broke through Jordan Ruby at 8:16 of the third period when Kyle Bushee bounced in a shot from the wall on the goal line for his seventh goal of the season. Guy LeBoeuf earned the lone assist.

Tyler Currier continued the comeback effort with his team-leading 21st goal of the season at 13:15 as he walked down the left wing and ripped a wrist shot past Ruby. Steven McParland earned his first professional assist and point in his pro debut.

As time ticked down the Jackals pulled Shane Owen for an extra attacker and capitalized at 18:55 when Jacob MacDonald fired a seeing eye shot through traffic from the blue line for the equalizer. Tyler Currier and Matt Garbowsky were credited with the assists on MacDonald's 17th goal of the season.

Sixty minutes of regulation and five minutes of overtime wouldn't provide a winner so the game went to a shootout. The first four rounds showcased the goaltenders as Shane Owen and Jordan Ruby turned aside each shooter. The closest attempt to a goal came in round one when Colin Jacobs had Ruby fooled but clanked his shot off of the post. Mike Vernace scored the only shootout goal in the bottom of round five to give Brampton its first shootout win of the season.

Shane Owen turned aside 22 of 25 shots faced and stopped four of five shootout attempts but was handed the tough luck loss. Jordan Ruby stopped 37 of 40 shots faced and all five shootout attempts to earn the win.
