Colorado Eagles News Release
(Loveland, CO) -- The Colorado Eagles closed out their final regular season home stand with a 5-1 victory over the Idaho Steelheads Saturday at the Budweiser Events Center, giving Colorado its sixth straight victory in the process. Eagles forward Jesse Mychan scored two goals and added an assist in the win on Fan Appreciation Night. Colorado now leapfrogs the Idaho into first place in the ECHL's West Division.
The Eagles got on the board first at the 7:42 mark of the opening period when forward Everett Sheen took a back door pass from fellow forward Sean Ringrose and buried a shot past Idaho goaltender Branden Komm for the 1-0 advantage.
The Steelheads evened the score when forward Kruise Reddick scored, placing a shot over the left shoulder of Eagles goaltender Kris Lazaruk with 5:13 to play in the first. Idaho and Colorado would head to first intermission deadlocked at 1-1.
Colorado came on strong in the second period scoring three goals. Forward Darryl Bootland regained the Eagles lead with a shot from the point that gave Colorado a 2-1 lead just 2:40 into the period.
The Eagles closed out the period with two quick goals, as forward Jesse Mychan scored on the power play, putting back a rebound to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead at the 12:26 mark of the middle frame. Then just 42 seconds later Colorado took a 4-1 advantage when forward Derek Rodwell tipped in a shot from forward Trent Daavettila from the blue line.
With just 43 seconds left in the game, Mychan added his second of the night and 30th of the season from the top of the crease to seal the 5-1 Colorado victory.
Lazaruk won his third consecutive start in net, stopping 20 of Idaho's 21 shots in the victory.
