Rampage Stun Wild in Overtime 4-3
April 10, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
San Antonio Rampage News Release
SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Rampage (32-34-8-0) won their seventh straight home game in stunning fashion, topping the Iowa Wild (23-39-5-5) in front of 7,910 at the AT&T Center on Friday night. The Silver and Black trailed by one with time winding down before Mikko Rantanen lit the lamp with 35 seconds left in regulation to force overtime. Garry Nunn tallied two goals, including the overtime game winner, earning the Second Star of the Game, while Rantanen earned the First Star of the Game, setting a new franchise record for goals by a rookie.
The Wild got the first lead of the night, as Colton Beck received a centering pass from Zack Mitchell for the game's opening tally. Mitchell extended Iowa's lead to two goals before the midway point of the opening period, but the Rampage answered late in the frame. Garry Nunn sprung ahead on the break, taking a stretch pass from Joey Hishon and skating in on Steve Michalek before firing for his fifth of the season.
The Silver and Black evened the game at two in the middle session with a backhand marker from Ben Street, the sixth goal and 18th point in 13 games for the Rampage captain.
Beck potted his second of the night to give the Wild back the lead, deflecting a Guillaume Gelinas shot past Reto Berra on the power play.
Once again it looked like the Rampage might be done until Rantanen notched his team-leading 23rd of the season to force overtime for the third straight game.
Iowa put two shots on net in the extra frame to San Antonio's one, but one shot was all they needed, as Nunn scored on a wraparound to lift the Rampage to victory.
The Rampage outshot the Wild 29-28, and Reto Berra finished with 25 saves on 28 shots. Joey Hishon had a three-point game, recording assists on Rantanen's tying tally and each of Nunn's markers.
Notes With their seventh straight home win, the Rampage tie a franchise record for home winning streak. The last time San Antonio recorded seven straight home wins was Nov. 26-Dec. 15, 2002.
Lineup Notes San Antonio's top three lines remained unchanged from Friday night's shootout win over the Wild. Dan Maggio drew into the lineup, skating with Troy Bourke and Alex Belzile on the fourth line while Jackson Houck was scratched.
Up Next San Antonio hits the road for one final contest against the Texas Stars on Wednesday before returning home for the season finale against the Manitoba Moose on Friday, April 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the AT&T Center. Season tickets for the 2016-17 campaign are on sale now. For more information, call a Rampage representative at 210-444-5554 or visit sarampage.com.
