Milwaukee Admirals News Release
Charlotte, NC - Juuse Saros stopped 31 shots and Pontus Aberg scored a pair of goals to lift the Milwaukee Admirals to a 4-2 win over the Charlotte Checkers Sunday afternoon.
The win was Milwaukee's sixth straight and extended the team's points streak to 12 games (10-0-0-2).
Saros faced many quality scoring chances but came away with his 28th win, the sixth most in a single-season in Admirals AHL history. Saros is 13-1 in his last 14 decisions.
Milwaukee scored the first goal of the game with a power play tally at 14:26 of the first period. Frederick Gaudreau sent a pass from the right corner to Taylor Aronson at the right point. Aronson fed Aberg at the left circle for a one-timed slapshot that hit the net for his 23rd goal of the season and seventh power play goal. Aronson and Gaudreau recorded the assists.
Charlotte tied the game after the Admirals turned the puck over at center ice. David Wohlberg was able to lift a shot over the left glove of Saros for his ninth goal of the season at 1:36 of the second period.
The Admirals reclaimed the lead after a good cycling play in the right wing corner. Felix Girard left the puck for Aronson who moved behind the Checkers goal. He slid a pass to Matt White at the right post and White slammed the puck into the goal for his 12th goal of the season.
Aberg scored his second of the game at 12:07 of the second period. Max Reinhart had possession at the left wing boards in the Charlotte zone. He shot and the rebound bounced to Gaudreau at the left side of the net. Gaudreau fed Aberg who was all alone at the right post for the easy tap-in. It was Aberg's 24th goal of the season.
The Checkers scored at 19:45 of the second period to get within one. Justin Shugg was able to lift a shot from in front of the crease over the right shoulder of Saros for his 12th goal of the season.
The Checkers had a late power play in the third period but Milwaukee's Vladislav Kamenev was able to grab a loose puck in front of the Ads net and send it the length of the ice into an empty Charlotte goal for his 15th goal of the campaign and second shorthanded. The goal was scored at 19:15 of the third period.
The Admirals return home to host Chicago Tues., Apr. 12 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center.
