Falcons Lose Tight Game against Providence Bruins

Springfield, MA - The Springfield Falcons suffered a 3-2 loss to the Providence Bruins on Sunday night at the MassMutual Center.

Just 30 seconds into the game, Jordan Szwarz tallied this eleventh of the year with a goal from the slot. Christian Fischer registered his first professional point by obtaining the main assist on the goal. Fischer fed Szwarz from behind the net after receiving a pass from Justin Hache. At 3:59, the Bruins tied the game at one with a goal from Brian Ferlin. His fifth of the year was assisted by Alexander Khokhlachev and Chris Casto. Springfield goaltender Niklas Treutle stopped 12 shots in the period.

With a five-on-three power play late in the second period, Providence struck twice. Brandon DeFazio notched his 22nd of the year at 16:34 with assists from Matt Irwin and Seth Griffith. Ben Sexton scored at 17:55 on a five-on-four power play to give the Bruins a 3-1 lead. His fourth of the year was assisted by Khokhlachev and Griffith. The period concluded with the Bruins holding their lead and netminder Jeremy Smith stopping 19 shots through the two frames.

Just 3:38 into the third period, Tyler Gaudet scored for the Falcons to cut into the deficit. His fourth of the year was tallied on a scramble in front of the net after a Justin Hache shot. Dysin Mayo also assisted for his first professional point. The Falcons pulled Treutle late in the game for the extra attacker. Providence was able to hold the Falcons offense and wni the game by a 3-2 score. Treutle stopped 25 shots to fall to a record of 12-19-5. Smith made 34 saves on 36 shots to improve to a record of 16-19-4.
