Charlotte Checkers News Release
RALEIGH, NC - Ron Francis, Executive Vice President and General Manager of the National Hockey League's Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that the team has assigned forward Brendan Woods to the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL). The Checkers host the Milwaukee Admirals today at noon at Bojangles Coliseum.
Woods, 23, played in five games on the NHL level for the Hurricanes this season. The Humboldt, Sask., native has scored nine goals and earned 11 assists (20 points) in 58 games this season with the Checkers. Since turning professional, Woods (6'4", 210 lbs.) has scored 27 goals and earned 31 assists (58 points) in 170 career AHL games, and has skated in seven career games with the Hurricanes. Carolina drafted Woods in the fifth round, 129th overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft.
Additionally, the Checkers have signed forward Ryan Rashid to a professional tryout contract. Rashid, a 25-year-old, third-year pro who attended Checkers training camp and played the only two AHL games of his career on a previous tryout with the club in December, has 38 points (13g, 25a) in 68 games with the ECHL's Greenville Swamp Rabbits this season.
The Checkers host the Milwaukee Admirals for the final regular-season game at Bojangles' Coliseum today at noon. The team, which currently holds the final playoff spot in the Pacific Division bracket, concludes its regular season with a pair of road games in Lake Erie this Thursday and Friday.
