Providence, RI - With a 3-2 win over the Springfield Falcons, the Providence Bruins have clinched the fourth playoff spot in the Atlantic Division.

The Falcons got out to a quick start, capitalizing just 0:30 into play. Jason Swarz put one behind Jeremy Smith, assisted by Fischer and Hache. The Providence Bruins struck back with a goal of their own at the four minute mark. Brian Ferlin netted the equalizer when Alexander Khokhlachev dished the puck to Ferlin whose wrister tied the game 1-1.

Providence had a chance to show off their AHL-leading power play unit when Bunting was sent off the ice for roughing, then Reese closed his hand on the puck to give the P-Bruins a 5v3 advantage. About 0:30 into the power play, Matt Irwin kept the puck in the offensive zone and fired off a slap shot from the blue line. Brandon DeFazio was screening in front of Treutle and deflected Irwin's shot to give the P-Bruins the lead.

Ben Sexton notched the second power play goal of the period when he slipped a rebound in off of Khokhlachev's initial shot. Providence went into the third period with a 3-1 lead.

Springfield fought back, scoring off of a rebound to make it a one-goal game. But the P-Bruins would not be denied of a win and held off a 3v5 disadvantage with Gabrielle and Sexton in the box simultaneously. Jeremy Smith was forced to make multiple tremendous glove saves to keep Providence in the game. This victory and subsequent clinch of playoff spot is the fourth season in a row Providence will make a post-season appearance.
