San Antonio Rampage News Release
CLEVELAND, Ohio - The San Antonio Rampage scored two goals in the final frame to come from behind and beat the Lake Erie Monsters 4-3 on Friday night at Quicken Loans Arena. They improve to 30-18-2-0 on the year with 62 points and are 5-0-1-0 in their past six games.
Several Rampage skaters registered a multiple-point night as Alex Picard scored one goal and one assist and Matt Beaudoin and Matt Watkins each provided two assists.
The Monsters were the first to jump on the scoreboard with a 1-0 lead as center Harrison Reed tipped the puck past Rampage goaltender Al Montoya's left shoulder from the top of the crease at the 6:59 mark of the opening frame.
San Antonio responded by scoring a goal with four seconds remaining on their first power-play opportunity of the night 13:43 into the first period. Leading scorer Brett MacLean tallied his 19th goal of the season as he redirected Jeff May's shot from the right faceoff circle into the lower left corner of the net behind Lake Erie netminder John Grahame to tie the game at 1-1. Watkins added the second helper.
The Monsters claimed a 2-1 advantage on the power play after right wing Matthew Ford fired a snap shot from the slot that went through the five-hole of Montoya at the 17:06 mark of the opening frame.
San Antonio tied the game at 2-2 when right wing J.D. Watt recorded his first goal in a Rampage uniform 2:26 into the second period. Ryan Hollweg and Watkins assisted on Watt's shot from the slot that sent the puck bouncing under the leg padding of Grahame and into the back of the net.
Lake Erie took a 3-2 lead when right wing Luke Walker skated down the slot and snapped a shot to the low glove side of Montoya 8:20 into the middle frame.
After allowing three goals in 28 minutes, Rampage head coach Ray Edwards substituted goaltender Matt Climie in place of Montoya.
The Rampage netted the equalizer 12:14 into the third period after center Bracken Kearns wrapped around the right goal post and tapped the puck into the lower left corner of the net for a 3-3 score. Picard and Beaudoin supplied the assists.
Just 53 seconds after their last tally, San Antonio took their first lead of the game at 4-3 on a power-play goal by Picard. Beaudoin fed the puck to Picard at the right post where he punched it home to the stick side of Grahame. Garrett Stafford chipped in with the assist.
With 1:25 remaining in the contest, Lake Erie head coach David Quinn pulled Grahame in favor of a sixth attacker, however the Monsters were unable to score on the empty net and the Rampage finalized their victory at 4-3. Montoya and Climie combined for 18 saves on 21 Monsters shot attempts while Grahame finished the night with 15 saves on 19 Rampage shots.
The Rampage return to the ice Saturday afternoon when they drop the puck against the Lake Erie Monsters for the second part of a back-to-back series at Quicken Loans Arena at 12 p.m.
