Manitoba Moose News Release

The Vancouver Canucks, the NHL affiliate of the Manitoba Moose, today announced they have assigned defenceman Sami Salo to the Moose for conditioning.

Salo, 36, has yet to appear in a game this season for Vancouver after suffering an Achilles tendon injury in the off-season. The native of Turku, Finland has played in 665 NHL games in his 12-year professional career with Ottawa and Vancouver where he's scored 273 points (81g, 192a) and collected 228 penalty minutes. He is seventh all-time in scoring amongst Canucks defencemen and first overall in all-time powerplay goals scored by a Canucks rearguard. He has also appeared in 74 career Stanley Cup playoff games where he's scored 26 points (9g, 17a) and collected 13 penalty minutes. Salo has represented Finland at the last three Winter Olympic Games (2002 Salt Lake City, 2006 Torino, 2010 Vancouver), two World Championships (2001 & 2004), and a World Cup (2004).

He was originally drafted by the Ottawa Senators in the ninth round, 239th overall, of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft.
