Binghamton Senators News Release
NORFOLK, V.A. - The Binghamton Senators boarded a bus and headed south this weekend, paying their first visit of the season to the home of the Admirals, the Norfolk Scope Arena. Defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron tallied a pair of goals, including the game winner, and an assist as the Admirals downed the B-Sens 4-3 in overtime.
Following a scoreless first period, the Admirals struck first as Bergeron one-timed a shot past Mike Brodeur at 7:22 of the second stanza. The goal was Bergeron's first of the season, assisted by Mike Vernace and Blair Jones.
The B-Sens answered less than three minutes later. Colin Greening sent the puck along the left wing boards to Corey Locke who was parked behind the Norfolk net. Locke floated a centering feed to Bobby Butler who beat Dustin Tokarski at 10:13 with his team leading 22nd goal of the season.
A pair of goals in the final five minutes of the period sent the Admirals off for intermission with a two-goal advantage over Binghamton. Johan Haruj's 18th goal of the season came at 16:56 to put Norfolk back on top, while Stefano Giliati's sixth of the season gave the Admirals a 3-1 advantage with 49 seconds remaining in the second. Norfolk's leading scorer Marc-Antoine Pouliot assisted on both goals, earning two of his total three assists on the night.
Despite being outshot 26 to 14 through two periods of play, the B-Sens stormed back in the third, outshooting the Admirals 14 to three and scoring a pair of goals to tie the game and force overtime.
With Pouliot off on a high-sticking call, Patrick Wiercioch blasted a shot from the top of the right circle on the ensuing power play, beating Tokarski to pull the B-Sens within one.
Kaspars Daugavins tied the game as his shot from the slot trickled past the right skate of Tokarski with just 1:05 remaining in regulation. Locke would earn credit for an assist on goal, his second point of the night after assisting on Butler's tally in the second.
Just 1:36 into overtime, Wiercioch was sent off for hooking, giving the Admirals a power play advantage. Bergeron ended the game with a slap shot that beat a screened in Brodeur in the final seconds of the power play, giving Norfolk the win at 3:03 of extra time.
The teams are back in action at the Scope tomorrow night. Game time is set for 7:15 p.m. Fans can listen live on 680 WINR-AM or 1430 WENE-AM beginning 30 minutes before game time for Countdown to Faceoff with Grady Whittenburg, the voice of the B-Sens.
